Tanzania aspires to see the mining sector contributes up to 10 percent to the economy through value addition and beneficiation so as to spur growth and development.

The Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Energy and Minerals, Prof James Mdoe made the remarks in Dar es Salaam yesterday, citing that the country is one among Africa’s mineral –rich countries endowed with a range of minerals.

The Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS) has urged farmers to observe required quality and standards to boost efforts of attaining an industrial economy.

Addressing coffee and flower growers here, TBS Acting TBS Director General, Dr Egid Mubofu said the spirit would lead to increased productivity and growth. He said it was high time farmers stopped business as usual mindset because it is wastage of resources.

Innovation and cybercrime should be among the key areas in implementing national policy on Information Communication Technology (ICT).

The Permanent Secretary (PS) in the Ministry of Works, Transport and Communications, Professor Faustin Kamuzora, said in Dar es Salaam yesterday that stakeholders should consider changes that have occurred in the recent years in the sector.

 
6. Local Contractors to Vie for Standard Gauge Railway Project Tender.

The government is set to advertise a tender for construction of the Standard Gauge Railway earlier in December, this year, the Minister for Works, Transport and Communications, Professor Makame Mbarawa, has said.

Prof Mbarawa made the revelation in Dar es Salaam yesterday while calling on local construction firms to form joint ventures to win the tender, adding that 1 trillion/- have been set aside for the tender.
