The UNDP funded Solar Power Project has fed new hope to the remote village of Manchali, in Chamwino District, Dodoma Region.
Valued at USD 150 000, the project has benefitted over 600 families in Manchali village.
“The project aims at supporting vulnerable local communities to mitigate the effects of climate change through solar power solutions, new land use approaches and adopting modern water use technologies,” said the United Nations Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative, Alvaro Rodriguez. |

Africa’s No.1 rating agency, Global Credit Ratings Co. (GCR) of South Africa, has accorded Tanzania Reinsurance Company Limited (TAN-RE) a clean bill of health signifying financial stability at the sole locally registered reinsurer in the country.
Reliable sources at the company said the affirmation of its ability to pay policyholders’ claims was concluded last month and officially announced early last week. For the period ended June 2014, TAN-RE incurred claims decreased by eight per cent down to 14.6bn/- billion from 15.8bn/- billion during similar period in 2012. |

TRA warns business people against engaging in smuggling |

After managing to intercept smugglers with 11 pieces of rhino horns weighing 53.3kg and arresting four Chinese nationals at Kasumulu border post in Kyela district, Tanzania Revenue Authority has reminded business people and the general public to stop smuggling.
TRA’s director of education and taxpayer services Richard Kayombo said yesterday that they have improved border protection technology to address the rampant problem of smuggling.
Kayombo said immediately after the interception of the consignment and the involved persons, customs officials in partnership with state security agents issued a Notice of Seizure with reference number TZKR- 0008 of 06-11-2015 pending further investigations. |

Iringa-based agribusiness company, Mtanga Foods Limited is planning to invest in a modern abattoir in Kisarawe and processed meat selling outlet in Dar es Salaam during the first half of 2016.
Mtanga Foods Limited chief executive officer, Trevor Shaw said in Dar es Salaam yesterday that the company has butcheries in Iringa and Mbeya regions.
“Our main base is in Iringa where we also have farms and meat processing plant, we have just opened an outlet in Mbeya and next year we will be in Dar es Salaam,” said Shaw who said the exact size of the investment to be made will be known later this year. |

ALGERIAN Ambassador to Tanzania, Mr Belabed Saad, has pledged continued cooperation between the two countries, insisting that no country could attain high level of socio-economic achievements single handedly.
The ambassador made the remarks during discussion with the Managing Editor of the Tanzania Standard Newspapers Limited (TSN), Mr Gabriel Nderumaki, when the envoy paid a courtesy call at his office in Dar es Salaam yesterday.
"There are different areas of cooperation between Tanzania and Algeria. Information technology sharing is one of the areas of cooperation to reach out people especially in remote areas for news coverage," Ambassador Saad observed. |
