Most observers agree that the structural adjustment policies (SAPs) implemented in Tanzania and many other low-income countries over the last two decades have not resulted in sustained economic growth or poverty reduction. At the same time, the large loans that helped finance adjustment contributed to a rapid increase in external debt and deepening dependence on continued aid flows to maintain macro-economic stability. At the turn of the millennium, global efforts to address the debt crisis met with some success. Tanzania was one of the first countries to qualify for debt relief, receiving pledges of three billion US dollars relief over 20 years. |

A team of Chinese scientists left Beijing tuesday for a 15-day scientific research expedition to the Great Rift Valley in east Africa. The research team, organized by the China Scientific Exploration Association, will enter southern part of Ethiopia to explore the Great Rift Valley and study the change of geological environment and the origin of human being.

Tanga Youth Development Association (TAYODEA) has been called upon to reach out to more young people, both in and out of school, in the ongoing national anti-corruption drive.
Tanga Regional Administrative Secretary made the call at the weekend during the opening of a one-day anti-corruption education workshop for Tanga Municipality. It was organised by the association in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
The seminar was intended to create awareness on the impact of corruption on the country’s development. The Office of the Vice-President is implementing the project. |
