Stanbic Bank has launched a new centre which offers full range of banking services to SME’s to provide more convenient services to entrepreneurs.


The new centre dubbed Enterprise Direct,comes up with a wide range of value added features which will make it easier for clients, especially the medium sized enterprises or SME’s to make deposits wherever they are.

“The focus is on migrating clients to digital self-service channels to make it easier for the customers to transact,” Stanbic Bank’s Head of Enterprise Banking, Christopher Gilbert Mlay, said in a statement.

 
18. Businesswomen to Follow Up on Tenders.

Tanzania Women Chamber of Commerce (TWCC) plans to make a follow up on implementation of a directive by Vice-President Samia Suluhu Hassan to councils to give 30 per cent of their tenders to business women and youth.

When launching Women Empowerment Forum in Dar es Salaam in June, this year, Ms Samia made an emphasis on the 30 per cent share for women and youth as stipulated in the new Public Procurement (Amendment) Act, 2016. “We will do evaluation to see whether the councils are executing this. It’s our hope that this law would economically empower women, “chairperson of the TWCC, Ms Jackline Maleko, said.

 
19. Inflation Decreases Below 5 Percent.

The annual headline inflation for August has declined compared to the previous month on account of lower food and fuel prices.

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) Director of Population, Census and Social Statistics, Mr Ephraim Kwesigabo, said in Dar es Salaam yesterday that inflation fell to 4.9 percent year-on-year last month from 5.1 percent in July.

He said the month-on-month headline inflation rate went down 0.2 per cent in August from an increase of 0.03 per cent a month ago. The overall index went up to 103.28 in August from 98.49 recorded in August 2015.

 
20. Dar city to host first African sustainable business summit

  DAR ES SALAAM is scheduled to host the first African Sustainable Business Summit geared at discussing better ways in which business can change society.

The two-day summit, will be held under the theme ‘17 Goals 17 Business Opportunities: Setting the tone for the Post 2015 Development Agenda and seeks to encourage dialogue and exchange of sustainable business practices in particular encouraging private sector participation in the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The summit is organised by the African Sustainable Business Magazine (ASB Magazine) and will be held in April (14th and 15th). Participants at the summit will also share experience and ideas before coming up with proposals to promote a culture of sustainable business in Tanzania.
 
21. Four tax matters go to Appeal Court today

  In one such session today, a panel comprising Justices Nathalia Kimaro, Katherine Oriyo and Augustine Mwarija would hear four appeals among 26 that have been scheduled for determination within eight days.

The four cases involve giant companies, including Quality Group Limited, Tanzania International Container Terminal Services (TICTS), TSCAN and Pembe Flour Mills Limited.

Other tax appeals cases that would be determined in a two-week session include North Mara Gold Mines Limited, Bulyanhulu Gold Mines Limited, Geita Gold Mining Limited, Intestate Mining and Minerals Tanzania Limited and Mabangu Mining Limited. Others are National Microfinance Bank PLC, KCB Bank Tanzania Limited, Tanzania Breweries Limited (TBL), BP Tanzania Limited, Pan African Energy Tanzania Limited, Tanzania Ports Authority (TPA) and Kilombero Sugar Company.
 
22. Oil stakeholders call for single storage facility

  Basing their argument on a report by a team of an industry technical committee commissioned by the Petroleum Importation Coordinator Limited (PICL) in 2014, players in the industry state that all products should be discharged into a single terminal.

The report clearly highlighted that the losses occurred when fuel was being discharged from ships and when transported in pipelines to storage tanks.

The storage terminals have also been cited as another area where losses occur. Preferring to remain anonymous, sources in the industry pointed an accusing finger to the Kigamboni manifold which they say is substandard and responsible for many losses.
 
23. Govt set to abolish nuisance taxes imposed on businesses

  The Finance and Planning Minister Dr Philip Mpango yesterday announced government plans to abolish nuisance taxes imposed on various businesses to unleash the potential of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs).

Speaking to the business community in Dar es Salaam yesterday, Dr Mpango pointed out that the plan to axe the unnecessary levies will be realised during the 2016/17 fiscal year.
 
24. Tanzania's gas enough to satisfy British users for over 20 years

  The gas resources so far discovered in Tanzania can meet the current demand of gas for the whole of the UK between now and around 2040, The Guardian has reliably learnt.

Tanzania has established gas resources amounting to 55 trillion cubic feet (tcf), which is 22 times the gas British users consume annually. The 2.5 tcf annual consumption means that Tanzania has capacity to supply the UK with gas for over 20 years.
 
25. TAN-RE rated positively after 15.8bn/- capital bolster

  Africa’s No.1 rating agency, Global Credit Ratings Co. (GCR) of South Africa, has accorded Tanzania Reinsurance Company Limited (TAN-RE) a clean bill of health signifying financial stability at the sole locally registered reinsurer in the country.

Reliable sources at the company said the affirmation of its ability to pay policyholders’ claims was concluded last month and officially announced early last week. For the period ended June 2014, TAN-RE incurred claims decreased by eight per cent down to 14.6bn/- billion from 15.8bn/- billion during similar period in 2012.
 
26. TRA warns business people against engaging in smuggling

  After managing to intercept smugglers with 11 pieces of rhino horns weighing 53.3kg and arresting four Chinese nationals at Kasumulu border post in Kyela district, Tanzania Revenue Authority has reminded business people and the general public to stop smuggling.

TRA’s director of education and taxpayer services Richard Kayombo said yesterday that they have improved border protection technology to address the rampant problem of smuggling.

Kayombo said immediately after the interception of the consignment and the involved persons, customs officials in partnership with state security agents issued a Notice of Seizure with reference number TZKR- 0008 of 06-11-2015 pending further investigations.
 
27. UNCDF, TPSF waelimisha mitaji kwa wajasiriamali
