16. UN, UNDP grant remote Dodoma village 150,000 USD to mitigate climate change

  The UNDP funded Solar Power Project has fed new hope to the remote village of Manchali, in Chamwino District, Dodoma Region.
Valued at USD 150 000, the project has benefitted over 600 families in Manchali village.
“The project aims at supporting vulnerable local communities to mitigate the effects of climate change through solar power solutions, new land use approaches and adopting modern water use technologies,” said the United Nations Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative, Alvaro Rodriguez.

  With the elections fever, which played a big part in weakening the shilling last month, now over, the local unit has begun to stabilise against the US dollar with foreign exchange market players upbeat about its prospects in the near future.

When President Kikwete assumed power in 2005, the mean official exchange rate was 1,141.5/-. When he left State House to retire at his home village of Msoga around Chalinze in Coast Region on November 5, it had depreciated to 2,151.5/-.

20. Fuel prices fall as Shilling revives

  Retail and wholesale prices for diesel and petrol went down significantly this week compared to last month due to what financial analysts believe is the revival of the Shilling value.

Retail price for petrol has decreased by Sh82 a litre representing a 33.91 per cent while diesel price went down by Sh51 per litre, a rate of 2.78 per cent respectively.
