Police in Dar es Salaam have killed two suspected bandits who are believed to have been involved in the robbery incident at the National Microfinance Bank (NMB) Temeke branch at the end of last month and arrested eleven others.
Dar es Salaam Special Zone Police Commander Suleiman Kova told journalists yesterday that the two died in a shoot-out with the police when they attempted to arrest them.

Switzerland has offered to help the Bank of Tanzania get back any money swindled from its external payment arrears (EPA) account and moved to the European country. "Corruption is a development killer and we are committed to helping the Tanzanian government recover any money that was illegally gained and may have been moved abroad, including to my country," said the newly arrived Swiss Ambassador to Tanzania. |

A survey has been conducted in Olkokola, Ilkurot and Lemong'o villages in Arusha to explain why communities are economically underdeveloped. Findings shed light on the missing links in the efforts to alleviate poverty among grassroots communities in rural areas. The survey assessed (i) availability of resources that are under the jurisdiction of the village governments as one of the requirements for economic development in the communities, (ii) the effectiveness of the village government systems as a basis for mobilizing resources for development, (iii) relevance of the expertise for economic development that members of the rural communities possess. |
