Serikali imejipanga kuhakikisha inafanya maboresho katika bandari zake zote kwa kujenga miundombinu ya kisasa ili kuhakikisha wanaimarisha shughuli za usafirishaji ili kufikia ndoto ya uchumi wa kati.

Ahadi hiyo imetolewa na Katibu Mkuu Wizara ya Ujenzi, Mawasiliano na Uchukuzi, Mhandisi Joseph Nyamuhanga, wakati wa ufunguzi wa kivuko cha MV Pangani pamoja na gati, uliofanyika wilayani Pangani juzi.

Jacob ambaye pia ni Diwani wa Ubungo, aliwaambia waandishi wa habari Dar es Salaam jana kuwa mradi huo ulikuwa umefadhiliwa na Manispaa ya Hamburg kwa gharama ya Sh bilioni 3.5. Ulitarajiwa kukamilika Juni mwakani.

Mkuu wa Mkoa wa Songwe, Chiku Galawa, ameziagiza halmashauri za wilaya mkoani humo kubuni biashara ambayo itakuwa na tija kwa kuongeza mapato bila kutegemea ushuru wa mazao.

Akizungumza jana Mjini Vwawa, Galawa alisema halmashauri zikiwa na miradi ya biashara zitakusanya fedha za kutosha na kuachana na ukusanyaji wa ushuru wa mazao ambao wananchi wamekuwa wakiulalamikia.

Alisema ubunifu wa biashara hizo utafungua fursa kwa vijana wasio na ajira na kuajiriwa kupitia miradi hiyo, kufunguliwa kwa viwanda ambavyo vikisimamiwa na kufanyakazi kwa uhakika vitakuwa ni chanzo cha mapato.

Hatua ya Serikali kuwa katika maandalizi ya kuliondoa fao la kujitoa imezua taharuki miongoni mwa wafanyakazi ambao wengi wao ni wanachama wa mifuko ya hifadhi ya jamii.

Hali hiyo imekuja baada ya Serikali kupitia Mamlaka ya Usimamizi na Udhibiti wa Mifuko ya Hifadhi ya Jamii (SSRA), kuandaa muswada wa mabadiliko ya Sheria ya Mifuko ya Hifadhi ya Jamii ambao kwa sasa upo katika hatua za mwisho, huku ikielezwa kuondolewa kwa fao la kujitoa na badala yake kuletwa fao la kutokuwa na ajira.

Mbowe amesema kumekuwa na mdororo mkubwa wa uchumi na kupungua kwa mizigo katika Bandari za Dar es Salaam, Tanga na maeneo ya mipaka ya nchi kama Namanga, Silali, Horohoro na Tunduma, akisema imepungua kwa zaidi ya asilimia 60.

86. Inflation Decreases Below 5 Percent.

The annual headline inflation for August has declined compared to the previous month on account of lower food and fuel prices.

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) Director of Population, Census and Social Statistics, Mr Ephraim Kwesigabo, said in Dar es Salaam yesterday that inflation fell to 4.9 percent year-on-year last month from 5.1 percent in July.

He said the month-on-month headline inflation rate went down 0.2 per cent in August from an increase of 0.03 per cent a month ago. The overall index went up to 103.28 in August from 98.49 recorded in August 2015.

 
87. PM Orders Agriculture Ministry to Assess Sugar Consumption.

Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries Ministry was yesterday directed to assess the actual amount of sugar consumed in the country.

Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa said the available figures does not reflect the actual demand and subjects the nation to endless shortage of sweeteners. He wondered how can Kenya with nearly equal population with Tanzania consume about 800,000 tones against 450,000 tones in the country.

“We want the ministry to conduct a thorough assessment amid a nationwide campaign to improve production of the sugar crop,” Mr Majaliwa said when responding to a direct question from Jaku Hashim Ayoub (CCM).

 
88. MUHAS, NIMR Patner for Intergrated Malaria Researches.

NATIONAL Institute of Medical Research (NIMR) and Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS) have partnered to undertake integrated rural and urban malaria control studies in the country. The new partnership comes amid studies showing steady fall of malaria in sub-Saharan Africa.

Deputy Minister for Health, Community Development, Gender, Elderly and Children Dr Hamis Kigwangala told the National Assembly here yesterday that the two institutions will resume the scientific work at the oldest established malaria monitoring station at Gonja in Same East-Kilimanjaro region.

NATIONAL Assembly yesterday passed the long-awaited access to information bill, 2016, with the government describing it as a fresh law to improve accountability and transparency in the country.

The bill which had been during debates criticised by opposition MPs, is grounded on helping citizens to access information from public institutions and neither had intention to gang press freedom.

 
90. EAC Heads Put Off EPA Signing for Three Months.

HEADS of State of the East African Community (EAC) have delayed the signing of the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) with the European Union (EU) for three months pending further consultations over the pact.

The leaders of the block have directed the EAC Secretariat to communicate to EU over the decision that was reached at the 17th Extraordinary Summit held in Dar es Salaam yesterday.

Europe has been pushing for the signing of the free trade pact by the EAC member states on October 1, 2016. Tanzania exclusively maintained on Wednesday that it would not append its signature on the agreement until the country’s demands that focus on the best interests of the people were met.
