NILE BASIN Initiative, a non governmental organisation is scheduled to construct a hydro electric power on River Kagera to supply Tanzania, Burundi and Rwanda. The power project would generate between 60-80 megawatts and work would begin in 2009 and is expected to end in 2011.

Tanzania has signed a bi-lateral agreement in General Budget Support with the Federal Government of Switzerland worth 19 million Swiss Francs, equivalent to 20bn for the period 2007 to 2010. The Minister of Finance, Zakia Meghji, said the money would be used to implement the governments National Strategy for Growth and Reduction of Poverty as part of the government of Tanzania?s effort to reach the Millennium Development Goals. |
