  The JAST is a national medium-term framework for managing development cooperation between the Government of Tanzania and Development Partners so as to achieve national development and poverty reduction goals. The overall objective of the JAST is to contribute to sustainable development and poverty reduction in line with the National Vision 2025 and the Zanzibar Vision 2020 by consolidating and coordinating Government efforts and Development Partners' support under a single Government-led framework.

  Modernization of the Tax Administration system has enabled the country to increase revenue collection has attracted other African states to adopt it. This was revealed recently after the Ghanaian Government solicited from the government the software which Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) had used to achieve the tremendous revenue collection success.

  Last week, the government said in Parliament that the Tanzania Telecommunications Company Limited (TTCL) had been handed over to Saskatel management. The Telecommunications Workers Union of Tanzania Secretary General told The Guardian that they had written a letter to the Minister of Infrastrucute Development to register their concern over the contract involving the government and Saskatel of Canada.

  African leaders set guidelines for scientific growth - In the final declaration of the Africa Union (AU) summit, heads of state have agreed on a series of steps to promote science and technology across the continent. In the conclusions to the AU summit meeting in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, released on 2nd February 2007, African leaders committed themselves to promote science education and allocate more funds to research and development.

112. UN Agency plans to shut camps as refugee numbers drop

  The United Nations refugee agency, UNHCR, plans to close down three camps in Tanzania in 2007 due to a drastic drop in the number of refugees in the country, an official said on Tuesday. Suggested camps to be closed are Mtendeli and Mkugwa camps in the western Kibondo and Muyovosi districts and in the neighbouring Kasulu district.

  CIPE has worked with local business groups in Tanzania to strengthen the governance process and improve private sector participation in policymaking. CIPE aimed to institutionalize public policy advocacy within the private sector by facilitating a structural change within the
institutions of government. CIPE understood that in order for public policy advocacy to be institutionalized within Tanzania's regions, there had to be an acknowledgement by the public sector of the importance of the business community’s role in the policy debate.
