  The University of Manchester -Brooks World Poverty Institute announces a series of scholarships for PhD study on poverty analysis starting in academic year 2007/8. To be considered for these scholarships, candidates will need to apply to study for a PhD via the normal University process by 31 January 2007.

  Mobiles have helped poor people in remote areas to access business information and employment opportunities without travelling long distances. In both countries people said they had saved time and money by avoiding expensive and unreliable transport, and being able to stay in touch had substantially improved relationships.
