The current library and information situation in Tanzania is that it is dominated by traditional collections, systems and services. Traditional methods of collection management and service provision do not allow much flexibility in terms of acquisitions, organization, accessibility, and preservation. Moreover, with the rise of cost of publications and library storage, increasing use of computer, and decreasing budgets, many libraries have to reduce their acquisitions of publications as well as other resources such as personnel, equipment, furniture, stationery, and services to their to clientele.

DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY
Digital libraries correspond to the growing interest in digital technology such as digital networks, digital video and audios and electronic publishing. Additionally, they may preserve and provide access to an institution's historical records and publications.
