	NILE BASIN Initiative, a non governmental organisation is scheduled to construct a hydro electric power on River Kagera to supply Tanzania, Burundi and Rwanda. The power project would generate between 60-80 megawatts and work would begin in 2009 and is expected to end in 2011.

36.	Switzerland extends 20bn in budget support to Tanzania

	Tanzania has signed a bi-lateral agreement in General Budget Support with the Federal Government of Switzerland worth 19 million Swiss Francs, equivalent to 20bn for the period 2007 to 2010. The Minister of Finance, Zakia Meghji, said the money would be used to implement the governments National Strategy for Growth and Reduction of Poverty as part of the government of Tanzania?s effort to reach the Millennium Development Goals.
37.	UK announces 650bn/- education boost

	The UK government has announced it will provide 650bn for financing education in Tanzania over the next 10 years. A statement issued by the UK's Department for International Development said the funds will be provided through general budget support and will depend on continued good performance by the government of Tanzania in implementing its poverty reduction strategy, including in the education sector.
38.	Dar Lauds World Bank for Support

	Dar es Salaam has lauded the World Bank's approval of $232 million of credit to the country to support the government's strategy for economic growth and poverty reduction popularly known as MKUKUTA. The World Bank Country Director for Tanzania and Uganda Ms Judy O'Connor said Tanzania was vulnerable to external shocks such as droughts, changes in commodity prices, or fluctuation in aid flows and that the credit encourages the diversification of the economy and institutional reforms that will reduce this vulnerability.
39.	World Bank funds stall water supply projects

	The implementation of water projects in districts countrywide has been stalled by a delay in disbursing funds from the World Bank. The Minister for Water, Dr Shukuru Kawambwa, made the statement when responding to an additional question by Ephraim Madeje (CCM - Dodoma), who wanted to know when the government would implement water projects in villages that were experiencing severe scarcity including Ngh'ongh'ona Village in his constituency.
40.	Harmonising Donor Practices for Effective Aid Delivery

	The management of different donor procedures bears a high cost for developing countries especially the poorest and most aid-dependent. For example, meeting multiple donor requirements employs; sometimes impairing ownership over partners’ own development plans and weakening capacity for effective public management. The Development Assistance Committee (DAC) of the OECD set up a special task force to look at how aid can be delivered more effectively through simplifying and harmonising donor procedures.
41.	Tanzania commits USD 952m to national water programme

	Tanzania has unveiled an ambitious programme to develop water resources and improve rural water supply and sanitation. The Minister for Water said the money — invested over a period of five years from 2006-2010 — will be provided by the government and the country's development partners.

	The Open University of Tanzania (OUT) has received 21 million Swedish Kronor from Sweden for financing ICT infrastructure at the institution. According to the OUT Vice Chancellor Prof. Tolly Mbwette, the donation will increase ICT application for academic, managerial, and administrative purposes.
43.	EuroAfrica in another show of social responsibility

	EuroAfrica Bank has donated 31m/- to the Dar based Mugabe Secondary School in what seems as a response to the President's call to private sector's increased contribution to the country's educational development. Speaking during the cheque-leaf handing-over ceremony, the Executive Director of the Tanzania Investment Centre Emanuel Ole-Naiko said that the cash donation would improve teaching- help at the school.
44.	Germany, Tanzania in cooperation pact

	Tanzania and Germany yesterday signed bilateral development co-operation agreements for the latter to grant the country some 63.4m Euros, equivalent to 104,7bn. The development support will cover the key sectors of water, health and local governance in two major segments, namely technical cooperation and finance. A press statement released says the assistance is extended between the years 2006 and 2008.
45.	TASAF sets aside 148m for development projects

	About 148.2m will be spent by TASAF in support of six development projects in several villages in Mwanga District, Kilimanjaro Region during the current fiscal year. The Fund's District Coordinator Salim Mshana said the projects would include construction of classrooms for Kisangara Secondary School, Kifaru and M`bambua secondary schools. A modern market at Lomwe village of Usangi ward would also be built and a house for a nurse at Kikweni village dispensary.
