	The World Bank has approved the Marine and Coastal Environmental Management project for the Tanzania. The overall project cost is US$61 million, including a US$51 million from IDA) and a US$10 million grant from the Global Environment Facility (GEF). The project will target all coastal districts on mainland Tanzania as well as Unguja and Pemba islands in Zanzibar and the 200,000 km2 Exclusive Economic Zone.

Speaking on behalf of the development partners at the Local Government Support Project (LGSP) in Dar es Salaam, the Embassy of Ireland Charge d’Affair, John McCullagh, said increasing availability of development funds at local level has reduced the need for area-based funding outside the national budget. The World Bank has approved 60 billion for a three- and a half year project to boost education, health, water and roads among other areas.

	A non-governmental Organization (NGO) has launched a project aimed at fighting the spread of HIV/AIDS among youths in Mpwapwa and Dodoma rural districts. The NGO, the Africa Alive, in partnership with Youth Challenge International of Canada, intends to formulate applicable programmes to reduce the number of youths at risk of HIV/AIDS infections.
