The World Bank has approved the Marine and Coastal Environmental Management project for the Tanzania. The overall project cost is US$61 million, including a US$51 million from IDA) and a US$10 million grant from the Global Environment Facility (GEF). The project will target all coastal districts on mainland Tanzania as well as Unguja and Pemba islands in Zanzibar and the 200,000 km2 Exclusive Economic Zone. |

Development partners have said decentralisation process in the country is a positive move towards enabling local government authorities to play their role according to the will of the people.
Speaking on behalf of the development partners at the Local Government Support Project (LGSP) in Dar es Salaam, the Embassy of Ireland Charge d’Affair, John McCullagh, said increasing availability of development funds at local level has reduced the need for area-based funding outside the national budget.
The World Bank has approved 60 billion for a three- and a half year project to boost education, health, water and roads among other areas. |
