Miner spends Sh2.4 on community development projects |

An international mining firm, Acacia Buzwagi Gold Mine, operating in Kahama district, spent Sh2.4bn last year to help villagers in the district with various community development projects.
The firm’s General Manager Asa Mwaipopo said the funds were spent on science labs construction at Ngokolo and Old Shinyanga primary schools, both located in Shinyanga municipality.
According to Mwaipopo, other projects were construction of a health centre and six water wells in Mwendakulima ward.
For his part, the mine’s Relations Officer, Moses Msoffe, said other areas such as construction of three houses for flood victims in Mwakata village, as well as construction of roads in Chapulwa village and installation of traffic lights in Kahama township.
In a separate development, a health centre in Mwendakulima village has no telescope, which leads to poor service delivery in the area. |

Mineral officials assure workers on safety of tanzanite mines |

The tanzanite mines at Mererani in Simanjiro District of Manyara Region are safe and show no signs that they will collapse as some miners claimed, according to senior mineral officials.
Deputy commissioner for minerals Ally Samaje said here over the weekend that findings from a recent inspection on Tanzanite One located in the remote area of Mererani, showed that the mine was not in danger of sinking.
He said the inspection was part of implementation by his office of an order by Arusha, Kilimanjaro and Manyara regional security committees after some of the mine workers claimed that there were signs that the mine would sink. |
