The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) have teamed up in campaigning against female genital mutilation (FGM), calling for concerted efforts to end the barbaric practice.
UNFPA Executive Director, Dr Babatunde Osotimehin, and UNICEF Executive Director, Anthony Lake, made their joint statement during the 2016 International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation. |

Over 700 people sign petition to end FGM |

More than 700 people within and outside the country have signed a petition to push the government to amend the Marriage Act of 1971 that violates the rights of the girl child by allowing early marriages for girls as young as 15 years of age.
Out of the 700 signatures, about 200 were collected late last week in Dar es Salaam during the International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) which is observed annually on February 6. |

This has been made possible by Jacobsen Electrol (JEL) which has donated Bajaj motorcycles that will be used for transportation allowing family planning service providers to reach such areas like Kinyerezi, Kimara and Gongo la Mboto to give lessons to women at no costs. |
