107. Gender and the Information Revolution in Africa

  Information is universally acknowledged to be a lynchpin of sustainable and equitable development. In Africa, however, access to information is limited, and especially so for rural women. The essays in this book examine the current and potential impact of the ICT explosion in Africa. They focus on gender issues and analyze the extent to which women's needs and preferences are being served. The authors underscore the need for information to be made directly relevant to the needs of rural women, whether in the areas of agriculture, health, microenterprise, or education.
 
108. Nationa Report for Promoting the Linkages between Womens Employment and the Reduction of Child Labour

  This interregional project, promoting linkages between women’s employment and the reduction of child labour is implemented by the Gender Promotion Programme in collaboration with the International Programme on Elimination of Child Labour. The rationale of this study/ project is to address problems of women’s employment and those of child labour as related factors. The linkages between employment of women and the use of child labour are significant particularly for the girl child.

  Land is a vital resource for rural livelihoods who depend on agricultural activities for their survival. This report looks at some land reform initiatives from a gendered human rights prospective. The aim of the report is to make a contribution to the operationalisation of the human rights-based approach, which has a direct bearing on international and national land reform policies, facilitating gender equality through elimination of discrimination against women.
