137. Call for Part Time Resource Persons and Facilitators

  Currently TGNP is in the process of establishing a Gender Training Institute (GTI) which calls for an expanded resource base in the area of gender training and facilitation. The objective of GTI is to bridge the knowledge gap on gender democracy and development through provision of gender training and capacity building services to national, regional and international participants. In this respect, TGNP is inviting qualified Tanzanian women and men to join her team of resource persons and facilitators for the GTI.

She said that open and distance learning helped in decongesting secondary schools and higher learning institutions.

144. Research Methodology Training Course

  The Centre for Social Science and Medicine in collaboration with the University of Dar es Salaam School of Public Health and Social Sciences is offering a three weeks Research Methodology tanning course with the objective of strengthening research capacity of participants to facilitate development of a holistic approach to health related problems in developing countries. The training will be conducted in Dar es Salaam from 3rd – 21st September 2007. The total cost which includes tuition and accommodation fees is USD 1,500. Deadline for application is 31st May 2007.
 
145. Kikwete endorses 8bn for recruitment of teachers

  President Jakaya Kikwete has endorsed the spending of 8bn/- on the recruitment of degree holders and Form Six leavers who are not professional teachers to teach in new secondary schools countrywide, to help contain the crisis. These teachers will be trained and thereafter dispatched to the newly built schools to teach.

  The U.S. Ambassador to Tanzania, Michael Retzer, has inaugurated two projects worth 32.5m/- in Dar es Salaam - the Ambassador's Special Self-Help Fund (ASSHF) and the Embassy's Democracy and Human Rights Fund (DHRF) are Shalom Primary School and DHRF for the World and Peace Organisation (WAPO) radio station.

150. Rise - project to help Isles school kids

  Poverty, disability, distance from school and lack of early learning experiences have been the main factors for many children in Zanzibar not to benefit from the USAID Supporting Children's Interactive Radio Education. A press release stated that in order to address this situation, the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training and the United States Agency for Development are initiating Radio Instruction to Strengthen Education (RISE), designed to increase learning and school participation of disadvantaged children.
