  Crop Marketing Bureau (CROMABU) was designed to gather and disseminate relevant information regarding crop prices in local and international markets and it does so through use of Information Communication Technology (ICT) to empower farmers. The youth, ex-students from primary and secondary schools as key channels of communications between CROMABU and the targeted farmers.

  Understanding the impact of Cotton Subsidies on developing countries: Cotton trade and production are highly distorted by policy. More than one-fifth of world cotton producer earnings during 2001/02 came from government support to the sector. Support to cotton producers has been greatest in the US, followed by China and the EU.
For 2001/02, US combined support to the cotton sector was US2.3 billion.

  The Tanzania Agricultural Research Project (TARP) II is said to have improved food security and livelihoods among smallholder farmers in the Eastern and Southern Highland Regions in the country, according to the Project Coordinator, Prof. L. Kinabo. The project has also trained over 200 staff members from the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security and SUA on research skills programmes.

234. Poverty Reduction Strategies and Relevant Participatory Learning Processes in Agricultural Higher Education

  A study was conducted in Ethiopia, Malawi, Tanzania and Uganda to find out how the Poverty Reduction Strategy Papers (PRSP) were reflected in policies and action plans. It was concluded that Tanzania’s Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper emphasizes sustained macroeconomic stability, rural sector development and export growth, and private sector development as key measures to reduce income poverty. Under Rural sector development and export growth there were items relating to agriculture. The report states that the Sokoine University of Agriculture is committed to contributing to poverty reduction, private sector development through education, research and outreach, including training in entrepreneurial skills.
