The alliance’s chairperson, Ms Imelda Urio, said in Dar es Salaam over the weekend that the alliance would also be a vital platform to raise awareness on women’s rights largely on land ownership.
She said that land ownership by women would speed up social development. “The alliance will also be creating awareness to its members on the proposed constitution. This will enlighten interest groups including women,” said Ms Urio shortly after being appointed chairperson of the alliance. |

It never dawned in Johari Kemmy Sadiq's mind that a seemingly normal and ambitious less habit of picking up pieces of cloth and designing small dresses for dolls, after watching her mother stitch clothes, like any other toddler, would develop into a dream that has seen her not only living it but also taking her to places she could have never imagined.
Hailing from Bukoba and born at Muhimbili National Hospital, Sadiq confesses that the mere act of watching her mother cultivated a passion of ripping fabric apart and joining the pieces to fashion. "With resilience I have been able to build my fashion house though modest but with wide achievable dreams," she added. |

President Jakaya Kikwete has commended Prof Anna Tibaijuka, executive director of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (Habitat) for clinching the 2009 Göteborg Award, the prestigious ‘Nobel Prize in Environment’.
The president told Prof Tibaijuka that the award showed that the whole world recognized her leadership and success in promoting permanent settlements in the world.
