TMA issues alerts on strong winds, waves in Indian Ocean belt |

The Tanzania Meteorological Agency (TMA) yesterday alerted the public on strong winds and big sea waves that are expected to occur along the entire Indian Ocean coastal belt.
TMA Public Relation Officer Monica Mutoni told ‘The Guardian’ here that strong winds exceeding 40km per hour and large waves exceeding 2.0 meters are expected along the entire coastal line.
“The areas expected to have such strong impacts will be the coastal zones of Tanga, Dar es Salaam, Lindi and Mtwara, together with Unguja and Pemba isles,” the official said.

African Court to deliver crucial judgment tomorrow |

Judges of the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights (AfCHPR) tomorrow will deliver judgment in Application 005/2013 (Alex Thomas versus the United Republic of Tanzania).
Thomas, who has been imprisoned for 30 years for robbery, is seeking from the African Court remedies, among others, on alleged wrongful conviction and unfair trail he received in his native Tanzania in 1998 and which was upheld by the Court of Appeal in 2009.
According to a statement, the African Court has started its 39th Ordinary Session of the Judges to run until November 20, this year at its seat in Arusha. |

TFDA warns youth on dangers of toxic chemicals in cosmetics |

Tanzania Food and Drugs Authority (TFDA) has launched a campaign to address the use of cosmetics that have hazardous chemicals banned by the Authority.
Dubbed ‘Operation to Eradicate Cosmetics with Toxic Chemicals,’ the campaign is being conducted in the Southern Highlands aimed at educating students in primary and secondary schools as well as universities on the effects of using cosmetics that have harmful chemicals.
Speaking yesterday in the region to students from Azimio Primary school, others from VETA and the Social Institute in Uyole, Mbeya Region, TFDA Manager for Southern Highlands Zone Rodney Alananga said the campaign is a counter measure against traders who continue to import banned cosmetics via unofficial routes |

A local NGO, Doris Mollel Foundation (DMF) yesterday received two oxygen concentrators and six suction machines, to support its ongoing efforts to address premature births.
An oxygen concentrator is a device which concentrates the oxygen from a gas supply (typically ambient air) to supply an oxygen enriched gas mixture. |
